A new wireless standard often comes before the final standardization of the previous generation. Wireless N has been standardized and in comes Wireless AC. It has been in development roughly two years back and is currently in its drafting stage. With that said, commercial routers were only pushed out to the public about a year ago. It is thus a very new technology and there are many devices that do not or cannot utilize such a technology. However, it does not hurt to “future-proof†yourself. Today I have one of the newer wireless AC routers to share with you. It is the TL-WDR7500 by TP-Link. Read on for the full review.

VPN Gate – A Truly Free VPN Service
VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) can be used for several things. The most common use of them is to bypass geographical restrictions. There are many sites and services on the net that only serve certain regions; Netflix, for example, is only available in the US, Canada and some Latin American countries. Using a VPN server that is located within the allowed regions will give you access to that particular service. There are also other uses such as providing anonymity, higher privacy and a more secure connection. There are several “free†services out there but they always come with some kind of special condition. VPN Gate, however, is a truly free service.
DIY NAS – Decision Making
Long long ago, I’ve owned a Network-Attached Storage. One word, it was crap. It was cheap and the performance spoke for it. It was my first time dwelling into the world of network storage and being totally new, I opted for a budget solution. It was fun configuring the different settings (though few) and additionally, the access to a common hard drive (HDD) is convenient and useful. With that said, the transfer speed was horrendous and it became a fact that it was going to be a huge paperweight with performances like that. I must admit though that my knowledge of networking stuff and the network infrastructure of my house was not that much to be proud of then. Nevertheless, the performance was totally abysmal even for that point of time and it was not long after did I finally took it down to serve as a dust collector. A few years on and I’m back again setting up yet another NAS. Continue reading

Hauppauge Colossus Review
Hauppauge Colossus is an internal PCI Express HD-PVR. In simpler terms, it is an internal card that is fixed within your computer that records high-definition footage from a video source. As such, the name HD-PVR stands for, High Definition Personal Video Recorder. I am mainly using the Colossus to record gameplay footage from my PS3 as well as my PC. This review will thus revolve around mainly my experience in using the Colossus for gameplay recording rather than other types of recording such as TV footage and others. If you’re in the market looking for a new capture card, read on for my review and some test footages of the Colossus. Continue reading
PC The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review
Skyrim is the fifth instalment to the well acclaimed The Elder Scrolls series and is set in a time roughly two hundred years after the previous game Oblivion. Skyrim is not a direct sequel to Oblivion but do have some references here and there as it takes place in a similar world but at a different part and time. The land of Skyrim is facing two major problems at this particular time. Firstly, the dragons seem to have returned and secondly, there is a civil war between the Empire and Stormcloaks. How exactly does Skyrim fair in terms of it being a game, a product of Bethesda Softworks as well as being part of the Elder Scrolls series? Read on for my review of the game (based solely on experience on the PC version) Continue reading
