INDIE Review: Chains

If you’ve noticed, I’ve recently gone into indie gaming mainly because of 2 reasons. One, there haven’t been much releases for commercial games nor do I have the computer to play them at a respectable frame rate. Two, indie games usually provide original gameplay concepts that are addictive and fun. They are also much cheaper when compared to commercial games and this is an important factor due to the economic downturn. Today, I will be reviewing an indie game called “Chains” made by an individual called Ivan Trayko.

Chains Header

Chains is a puzzle game with a unique feel and distinctive vector graphics style. The object of the game is simple – to link adjacent bubbles of the same color into chains. As you progress through the physics-driven stages it becomes increasingly more challenging and your speed, strategy and skill will be put to the test.

These Question Marks are Killing Me

I don’t know where I went wrong. Have no idea what I can do to improve. All these years I’ve been writing in the same way, style and manner. Of course through the years I’ve been improving myself through not making the same mistakes and heeding the teacher’s advices etc. I’ve always got marks that were average if not better. This time however was different. I felt I did like I normally would, write in the way that would at least give me a passing grade. In the end, it was totally rubbish. The marks reflected on my paper told me that all I’ve written was nothing more than nonsense. Why? Why did this happen? I honestly have no idea or the faintest hint. Continue reading

Indie: Let’s Shooting Love

LSL is a 2-D arena shooter featuring a robot that falls in love with several lovely female robots each with her own unique abilities and atmosphere.

The longer our heroes stay together, the more their relationship will evolve, making them stronger; but this increases the difficulty of the game, too. When they “break up,” the enemies are cleared, but so is the score multiplier. Throughout the game, the robot recalls memories of a love before…

Dustbins spotted in Swift World

Yup! As you may have observed. I’m a new author in Swift World. I’m pretty new to the blogging scene and a poor user of the English language. I hope you will forgive all my mistakes pertaining to my language, especially English.

I guess every blogger needs to write an introduction about himself so here’s mine in the next paragraph.

I first met a 10 year old Swift in an awesome Half-Life mod called International Online Soccer back in 2003. That is our favourite game back then and we spent countless hours playing it everyday. Unfortunately, the game never gets popular in Asia and Swift quited the game eventually. However, we still kept communicating and talking to each other through messenger. Now I’m currently serving National Service – having completed my diploma last year.

At the request of Swift, I joined as a guest author here to help keep the site updated more frequently (doubt so). I will be mainly posting about reviews and tutorials when I have the time. That all I guess, good bye =).

New Star Soccer Trials

Remember the review I did on New Star Soccer 4? Well if you aren’t convinced that it simulates a football player’s life much better than Fifa 09’s Be a Pro, you can either: Download the demo or play their mini flash game. Of course the latter is for the lazier souls. The flash game does not really show what the whole game is all about but it is a mini representation of a fraction of the full game. This ain’t no advertorial or anything, but just wanting to inform you guys about the game and such. Beautiful games ought to be shared. Don’t you agree?

Examinations Ahoy! First Battle of 2009

Tomorrow would officially mark the week whereby the first term’s examinations begin. Rather shocked how fast the first term’s examinations arrived. With less than a month or so to study anything new, most subjects would be testing the tiny bits we learnt in January/February and the chunk we ought to have entered into our brains at the end of 2008. This also means that … … I’m screwed! Yay! I have and not proud to say that most of my 2008 knowledge have gone down and out of my system. Besides, whatever I learnt in 2008 isn’t really mastered yet (e.g math). This thus equals to: I have to study!

As I typed this post, I think (yes I think) I am Continue reading

A Different Chinese New Year

This year’s Chinese New Year celebration felt different. It wasn’t because of the lack of red packets or new clothes. It also wasn’t due the lack of food or entertainment. It felt different, for the atmosphere was changed. The gathering was, I would say, a success; people came and exchanged greetings, laughing at jokes cracked in discussions, giving away red packets to the young ones. The place was bustling with activity and talking, but ironically there was a faint silence within the house. It couldn’t be heard but could be instantly felt. The gathering was gloomy and quiet.
